The Maestros, Site-Specific
Cinematic Infrastructures
Film Set for Save the Children
Context
This project envisions a network of adaptable and multifunctional film production spaces that respond to the evolving needs of contemporary cinema for the production house The Maestros. Combining soundproof studios, mobile units, and fully equipped modular sets, the infrastructure is designed to be both technically robust and spatially flexible—supporting a wide range of production formats and creative processes.
What sets this initiative apart is its intentional integration within environmentally conscious and culturally vibrant locations. By aligning with principles of responsible tourism and local engagement, the project reframes film production as an act of both cultural immersion and ecological stewardship. These site-specific settings serve as more than backdrops—they become active collaborators in storytelling, offering filmmakers immersive environments that inspire and challenge.
Through this model, the project promotes a vision of filmmaking that is sustainable, context-aware, and creatively generative, positioning production infrastructure as a vehicle for innovation, cultural visibility, and environmental care.
Concept
Embedded within the cultural, social, and economic landscape of Mexico City, this project investigates the intersection of film production and culture through a lens of spatial research and strategic cartography. Centered on a specific urban zone, the mapping process reveals the latent connections between existing film studios, cultural landmarks, and tourism infrastructures, offering a fragmentary yet critical glimpse into a larger territorial narrative.
Through these visual and analytical tools, the project proposes strategies to foster local partnerships, strengthen regional economies, and position film production as an engine for place-based development. By understanding production not just as industry but as a cultural force, the initiative reimagines filmmaking as a form of urban engagement—capable of activating underutilized spaces, supporting community identity, and advancing sustainable development grounded in context.
